Response to the nuclear threat from the US against Venezuela

In response to the nuclear threat from the United States against Venezuela and the Caribbean

The Anti-Fascist International, which brings together more than 1,500 social movements, political parties and prominent personalities from 77 countries around the world, strongly condemns the escalation of military intimidation by US imperialism in the Caribbean.

The arrival of the missile cruiser USS Lake Erie and the nuclear submarine USS Newport News a few miles off the Venezuelan coast constitutes a criminal provocation that jeopardises peace throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

This operation is not an act of ‘defence’ or ‘security’, but a fascist psychological warfare manoeuvre that seeks to sow terror in the region and, at the same time, divert world attention from the serious scandals shaking the US system itself: huge corruption, trafficking and cover-up plot revealed in the Epstein case, and the international embarrassment caused by the drug trafficking cartel in Fort Bragg, the military epicentre of those who today seek to set themselves up as guardians of global morality and security.

Washington is trying to use warships and nuclear submarines to hide the rottenness of its elites and the crisis of its model.

The Anti-Fascist International proclaims that no nuclear blackmail, no deployment of warships and no threat of extermination will be able to break the dignity of Venezuela or any other Latin American peoples. This act of intimidation is, in reality, a confession of the strategic weakness of a declining empire which, unable to win the battle of ideas, seeks to impose terror in order to maintain its hegemony.

Our solidarity is total and unconditional with the Venezuelan people and with President Nicolás Maduro Moros, who not only firmly leads the defence of his country’s sovereignty, but today stands as the leader of the global resistance against imperialism and the bearer of the just banner of the peoples who fight for peace, independence and social justice.

We urgently call on social movements, trade unions, parties, youth groups and organisations across five continents to raise their voices against this crime in the making: what threatens Venezuela today is threatening humanity as a whole.

The International Antifascist Movement reaffirms that, just as we defeated fascism in Europe and colonialism in Africa yesterday, we will also defeat imperialist intimidation in Latin America today. The Caribbean will not be a platform for war or a territory of submission: it will be a space of resistance and a bastion of dignity.

With Venezuela, with Nicolás Maduro and with the Patria Grande!
