The British Chapter of the Anti Fascist International stands in firm solidarity with Venezuela’s Bolivarian revolution, condemning the US bombing of Venezuela and kidnapping of its democratically elected President, Nicolás Maduro Moros and First Lady, Cilia Flores, a National Assembly deputy. Despite Trump’s claims that the US will now ‘run’ Venezuela and control all of its oil, the Bolivarian revolution, headed by the United Socialist Party (PSUV) remains firmly in control, evidenced by the huge mobilisations of popular support in the streets. Our media refuses to broadcast this reality so it is up to us to break the media blockade – the Bolivarian Revolution must be televised!
We totally condemn the complicity of imperialist Britain. The Labour government is an accomplice in this war. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has refused to condemn the US bombing and abduction, stating he will ‘shed no tears’ and that ‘the UK has long supported a transition in Venezuela’. The former human rights lawyer was unable to answer whether or not Trump had broken international law. The Bank of England continues to hoard 31 tonnes ($1.4bn) of stolen Venezuelan gold in its coffers. The British RAF, British bases and Ministry of Defence intelligence have aided in the seizure of Venezuelan linked oil tankers – this is imperialist piracy!
This is not only a war on Venezuela, this is a war on Cuba, on Nicaragua, on Colombia, on Mexico on all progressive movements in Latin America and beyond. It is an attack on solidarity with Palestine, targeting the nations who have defied the Zionist genocide in Gaza. Labour’s refusal to condemn the US illegal action is not out of cowardice, but because they represent the interests of the British multinationals and the same imperialist extractivism; Britain, like the US, treats the whole of Latin America as a place to be robbed of its natural resources. This is also an attack on the ordinary people of the US and Britain, who have far more in common with Venezuelan workers than they do with the ruling class of their nations. This is an attack on all who struggle to put people before profit, who fight for socialism, who fight to build a better world.
We pledge our resistance, from Britain, the Belly of the Beast. We salute all the fallen heroes, the 32 Cuban soldiers and 15 Venezuelan soldiers who lost their lives defending President Maduro on 3 January, their blood will not be spilled in vain. We mourn with our rage, the Venezuelan civilians who were killed in their sleep as US bombs destroyed apartment blocks and we stand shoulder to shoulder with the 8 million brave Venezuelan militia volunteers who are armed and mobilised, ready to defend their homeland against imperialist invasion. We see you! We salute you!

Nicolás Maduro is the legitimate president who has been illegally kidnapped. Venezuela’s institutions are functioning normally, Delcy Rodriguez, vice president is ensuring the management of the country, the Bolivarian revolution remains intact and resolute, defended by the militias, the military and communal movement. This illegal aggression violates Article 2 of the UN Charter and the Rome Statute. Venezuela is not at war with any country and has not attacked the US. Maduro is not a drug trafficker, he is a loyal and courageous president who comes from the working class.
- We pledge mobilisation in the streets around the world, in front of US embassies and government offices demanding the IMMEDIATE release of the two prisoners of war: Nicolás Maduro and National Assembly deputy, Cilia Flores.
- We pledge to fight imperialist propaganda that spreads false news in order to divide and weaken the Bolivarian movement.
- We support Venezuela’s call for the establishment of solidarity brigades throughout the world to fight imperialism and mobilise for peace.
