After the triumph of President Nicolas Maduro in the national elections of 28th July, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has been at the forefront of the construction of an International Antifascist movement. This initiative was expressed in the following events held in the city of Caracas: a) World Congress against Fascism, Neo-fascism and other similar expressions (September 2024); b) Meeting of Anti-fascist Parliamentarians (November 2024); c) World Meeting of Anti-Fascist Youth (November 2024); d) World Meeting of the Promoting Committee of the Anti-Fascist International (November 2024); e) World Festival of the Anti-Fascist International (January 2025).
In its resolution of January 2025, the Congress of the Anti-Fascist International expressed its recognition of this effort and stated that, “Venezuela has been a beacon in the global struggle against fascism, imperialism, colonialism, Zionism and all forms of human exploitation and domination, playing a central role in the coordination of international initiatives aimed at building a new world based on justice, unity, peace, solidarity and mutual respect between nations”.
The Anti-Fascist International Congress called, “to continue to advance in the organisation and consolidation of the chapters of the Anti-Fascist International in countries, regions and continents in order to articulate the struggles against fascism from the territories towards a global platform with the support of the Executive Secretariat of the Anti-Fascist International”.
Among other events the Anti-Fascist International Congress decided: a) to establish Training Camps ‘’Semilleros del Nuevo Mundo‘’, to train young leaders committed to building a new world; b) to call the World Anti-Fascist Meeting of the faith-based sector; c) to organise an International Meeting of Political Training Schools of the Global South; d) to develop community initiatives to root the anti-fascist movement at the grassroots; e) to launch of the Anti-Fascist Feminist International; f) to hold the World Anti-Fascist Congress of Indigenous Peoples; g) to convene the World Meeting of Jurists against Fascism in 2025, to establish legal strategies to confront fascism and its similar expressions.
Also, the Congress called to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazism as an opportunity to reaffirm the struggle for justice and self-determination.
